Session 23: Presidio

47th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
The dark elf turned out to be called El'Rull. He wished to surrender. He told the Guardians that he had been sentenced to death for not following the doctrines of Lolth. He had escaped and made his way out of the Underdark, only to end up here in the village, where a goatherder and his wife found him, more dead than alive. Unfortunately, his people must have been tracking him, because they arrived and promptly burned down the village for trying to hide him. He asked the Guardians to let him go, and when they refused to do that, he suggested that they bring him along, and turn him in to the proper authorities. He did not want to be punished for the crimes of his race.

48th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
After traveling most of the day, with both El'Rull and Lord Thoark in tow, the Guardians stopped to make camp. They were soon confronted by another dark elf, who wanted them to turn El'Rull over.

You have one of your own. We have no quarrels with you, but hand him over or you will die. Some quickly, here on the battlefield, some slowly, as a slave of my house.

The Guardians refused that, and engaged the not so lone drow. The fight was quick and dirty, and soon there was three more dark elves. Before leaving them to rot, the Guardians snagged a heraldry badge of some sort from the one who appeared to be the leader. Some kind of house insignia perhaps?

49th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
On the last day on the road, the Guardians ran into a lot of monks. First three monks of the White Swan, then a mysterious monk-like figure who disappeared right under their noses, when he jumped off a 60' tall bridge just outside Presidio.

Later the same day, the Guardians finally arrived at Presidio. There they handed off El'Rull, who seemed happy enough with being turned over to Captain Verner, leader of the guards on duty. Then they went with Lord Thoark to his not so humble abode, and was paid for their services. He even threw in an extra 1.000 gold pieces. He also told them about Christobal, owner of the Red Dragon Inn, a man who knows people. He gave them a ring for Christobal, telling them it would pay for them for a month.

They immediately went to the Red Dragon Inn, where they started a feast followed by a party. Especially Henry had fun, waking up naked in a closet in a strange house, with the husband home.

50th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
The next day, they had a long talk with Christobal, telling him about their need for glory. They also asked a lot of questions about the nobles of the town and the world around them.

51st day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
Henry got out and bought a map of the Empire, as well as a book about monks.

53rd day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
Christobal hooks the Guardians of Athas up with Lord Esteban Martinez, who wants them to travel north into Dragonshome and find a family locket of gold that was abandoned there many years ago.

54th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
The Guardians leave for the former Martinez estate.

57th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
As they stop for rest and are about to eat, Tweek spots a flicker in the small forest about a hundred yards out. He sends in the falcon, and sees a heavily cloacked figure meeting an orc. They spoke in a weird, evil-sounding language. The Guardians decide to sneak up on them and confront them. The confrontation quickly turns sour and soon the Guardians are facing the orc, two trolls and someone who hurls spiked chains out from beneath a huge cloak and who disappeared once he was killed.

On the orc, they found nothing of interest, except for an odd-looking tattoo.

Lord Ailton Thoark: Noble and old friend of Lord Commander Manson. Has agreed to pay 5.000 gold pieces to the Guardians when they have gotten him safely to Presidio from Fort Karouk (completed). Ailton is an old man of 70'ish, who wears his long grey hair in a braid. Doesn't trust drows. Gave the Guardians a ring to live for free at the Red Dragon Inn for a month.

Captain Verner: Soldier in charge of the gates of Presidio. Took El'Rull.

Lord Esteban Martinez: Offered 10.000 gold pieces (gave 3.0000 up front) for the Guardians to head into Dragonshome and find his family's old estate and bring back a gold locket.

Christobal: Owner of the Red Dragon Inn. Non-descriptive fellow of around 45 years old. Bald. Knows a lot of people, supposedly. Facilitated contact with Martinez.

Jones: A farmer on the road from Karouk that they couldn't convince to let them stay in the barn overnight.

Brother Jeremy, brother James and brother Thuuk: Three monks of the White Swan the Guardians met on the road from Karouk.

Session 22: Dark-skinned Elves

43rd day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
Lord Commander Edward Manson show the Guardians into his room, filled with a huge desk, a map of the region, books and assorted papers etc.

There he introduces them to Lord Ailon Thoark, an old friend visiting him at Fort Karouk on personal business. Unfortunately, most of his retinue has died fighting the orcs, and even though the Lord Commander is pretty sure he can hold the fort against the orcs, he would very much like his friend seen safely to Presidio. He offers the Guardians 5.000 gold pieces to bring Thoark safely to Presidio. The Guardians agree, and decide to leave the next morning.

Once in their appointed room to rest, Tweek suggest that they could revive the young lord that died, in order to  gain his favor. After a good bit of debate and a vote, they decide to perform the ritual the next morning.

44th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
The very next morning, the Guardians appropriate the corpse of Sir Gomez and withdraw to the room in order to perform the ritual. The Lord Commander hears of them taking the corpse, and arrives just as Tweek is about to revive the young noble. Tweek manages to convince to let them go through with the ritual, and they revive Alvaro. He is understandably shocked, but grateful, and tells Tweek to call on his family, if he should ever find himself in Ran, which is the capital of the Rmpire of Khiran.

After raising Alvaro, the Guardians and Lord Thoark sneak out of the castle, and start their 7 day trek to Presidio along the slopes of the Dragon's Mouth, a dormant volcano.

46th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
The Guardians run into Archibald the Bold, a travelling wizard. Tic-Tac tries to get him to part with a magical potion, but he refuses. He is however impressed with Heian's knowledge of magic and lets the Guardians stay with his camp for the night.

47th day of Autumn, 185th Year of Vecna
After some days of walking, the Guardians suddenly spot about 100 soldiers in plate and on horses coming up the trail towards them. Tic-Tac hides, and the other Guardians advice Thoark to do the same, when they find out that the soldiers carry the banners of the Ballard family, another noble family from Presidio.

The soldiers stop before the Guardians, and Sir James Ballard ask them about their business. The Guardians lie and do not mention Thoark, and after some "pleasantries", Sir Ballard and the soldiers move on and so do the Guardians.

A couple of hours later, further down the path, the Guardians notice some smoke coming from a big ledge, further up in the mountain. Tweek sends up his falcon, and finds a small village burning, with dead people laying everywhere. As he sends the falcon to investigate further, the connection is severed, when it is killed.

The Guardians backtrack a bit and move up towards the ledge, but are ambushed by 4 dark-skinned elves about halfway to the village. They deal fairly easily with them, and move quickly on.

The Guardians arrive at the village, and immediately start looking for survivors. As they do, they are ambushed by another 4 dark-skinned elves and 3 humanoids made of fire and wearing armor and weapons. The battle goes back and forth, and quite a few times things look very bleak, but in the end, they manage to pull through and kill their foes.

A quick search nets them 4 gems (each worth 500 gp) and yet another dark-skinned elf, which they find tied up in one of the few huts not set on fire.
