Session 15: Ssurrans

10th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
After defeating the huge sandworm, the Guardians of Hope continued their trek deeper into the desert, looking for the Ssurans and their holy temple. After a couple of hours they ran into a group of Ssurans waiting to ambush them, hiding behind the bones of some gargantuan lizard-creature, but the sharp perception (and Tweek's bird) of our heroes enabled them to turn the ambush around. Once the lizardmen dispatched, the Guardians continued. Late, towards nightfall, they arrived and found the temple. 8 Ssurrans were at it, some of them acting as guards, the others setting up for some ritual of the like.

The Guardians decided to spend the night hidden, in order to regain some strength.

11th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
At dawn, the Guardians of Hope snuck up to the temple. They managed to take out several guards (some were sleeping) before the rest was alerted. Still, even with said advantage, the fight proved to be extremely close and took the group to the edge and back. Luckily they all survived. A quick interrogation by Po of the leading shaman told them that the Fire Temple was located less than a day away and that they Ssurrans knew nothing of the Black Pyramid.

The shaman was killed, and the Guardians once again headed out in the desert, although not before scavenging a day's worth of rations from the lizardmen. They also picked up a magical rock, warped by the desert and magical storms of Athas.

12th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
Following the directions of the Ssurran shammy, the Guardians easily found the Fire Temple. The front was covered with strange symbols and "pictures" of winged and horned creatures with huge teeth and wicked claws. Tweek immediately got a bad feeling about the place. After Jelastra disabled the arcane traps, they headed inside.

After going down some, they ended up in a room that shut itself as they crossed a big platform with 4 huge fire braziers. As the door closed, the braziers all lit up, and a fire elemental jumped out of one of the braziers and a fight started. Then another came from another brazier. Then another, and so on. At some point Jelastra figured that taking out the braziers was key, and started to push them over. With some help, he eventually succeeded, although not before quite a few elementals  made their way through to the Guardians. They all died.

The elementals that is...

Session 14: The Dark Altar

5th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
After having dealt with the belgoi, the Guardians headed out into the desert.

8th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
After three days of wandering in sand with nothing but sand in sight, the Guardians of Hope were attacked by a couple of mindhunters, who pushed the Guardians into searching for new resources. But in the end, the mindhunters still died.

A couple of hours later, a sandstorm hit the Guardians. After a few hours, it suddenly stopped. Moving on, the Guardians soon almost stumbled over what turned out to be a massive altar of some mysterious black rock, with some even more mysterious symbols. Heian said he had a bad feeling about the altar, warning the others. The Guardians decided to dig out and see what the altar was standing on. As it turns out, the altar was very big (giant-sized) and grounded on a floor of black rock. At this point, the Guardians had to break for the night.

9th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
The next morning, the Guardians decided to dig on, and managed to clear a very big area of the black floor before they found an edge. Based on the top of the stairs they found, the Guardians deduced that they were on top of a huge pyramid. There were also some huge door-looking plates at the top, covered with magical runes, but they were unable to find a way to open them. Tweeks even tried to cast some fire on the doors, but the spell just bounced back in his face.

He then attempted to climb up on the altar, but fell down as if he had been hit by lightning and lay drooling for a while. He had gotten visions of horrible monsters of destruction.

10th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
The Guardians of Hope decided to move on, unable to find a way in. After more hours of walking in the desert, they entered the territory of the Ssurrans, marked by skulls on spears. Just as they passed the "line", a huge sand worm burst out of the sand and attack the Guardians. It was a long and hard battle, and pretty much touch and go until the end, when they finally killed off the huge beast.

Session 13: The Gnoll Deal

4th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
After waking up, the Guardians of Hope continued to make their way through the canyon. After about 30 minutes of travel, they were contacted by a Belgoi speaking badly common. He asked for peace and wanted the Guardians to follow him. They decided to do so. The Belgoi lead them to a cave where they met with a Belgoi leader. He offered them a magical necklace and some magical legbands, if they would travel 4 hours to the west and deal with a small clan of gnolls who had been hunting the Belgoi. They were led by a big gnoll called Fangren.

The Guardians agreed to the deal, and headed immediately west. First they ran into some more grey humanoids, this time with a pet lizard. They found some gnolls in an outpost, and dealt with them. They proceeded into the gnoll cave, where they ran into more gnolls. At this point, they were quite wounded and decided to retire and set up in the outpost tower the rest of the day, getting some rest.

As it was getting dark, they spotted a gnoll watching them from afar. Not quite ready to fight on, they decided to leave the outpost tower and hide nearby. Once they were ready, they headed back to the cave. There they followed the tunnels down, and ended up in a cave with acidic pools, stalagmites and a stone altar. In the back of the cavern, they spotted entrances to more caves, one of which had a lot of gnoll pups hiding in it. Before they could do anything, Fangren and 4-5 other gnolls came back. Fangren was very angry that they had invaded his home and killed his gnolls. He got even more angry when he found out the Guardians were working for the Belgoi. According to him, it was the Belgoi who were hunting the gnolls, stealing their pups to sacrifice in order to fuel their magical bells. He asked the Guardians to do the honorable thing and leave him and his alone. When that didn't do anything, he pointed out that if they went back and killed the Belgoi, they would end up with the same as if they killed him - the two magical items. He sweetened the deal with a lifelong free passage in the gnoll hills. That swayed the group, although the was no consensus.

Grabbing a head from one of the dead gnolls, they headed back to the Belgois. "Po" disguised the head to look like Fangren's, in the hope of fooling him.

5th day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
Arriving early in the morning at the Belgoi cave, they tried their bluff with the fake gnoll head, but the Belgoi leader saw through it, and the fight was on. Moments later, 5 dead Belgois were dead, and the Guardians had two magical items more than before. Jelastra had taken a beating - again, but was still alive.

Session 12: Five Dead Erdlus

1st day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
First the Guardians wanted to catch a caravan, but when they found out that there was about 15 days until the next caravan headed that way, they instead decided to purchase 10 erdlus to carry their 1000 lbs of water.

Heading out from Tyr, they made their way through Tyr's upland, without anything significant happening.

2nd day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
The Guardians entered the Canyons of Tyr, 100 feet deep canyons going on for 35 miles, leading to the desert. After some miles, they spotted some grey gnarly humanoids (that they couldn't identify), that wanted to kill them. While the fight itself wasn't too hard, the death screams of the monsters proved lethal to the Guardians' mounts - the erdlus. 5 died.

3rd day of Mist In Sun Descending, Year of the Priest's Defiance
After another day of walking in the canyon, the Guardians of Hope made halt for the night. At some point before daybreak, Tic-Tac was lured outside by the ringing of a bell, he broke the "spell" before the belgois could lure him outside and kill him, and there was a short but pitched battle to dispose of the pesky fey.
