Session 3: Death In The Desert

24th day of Rest in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
As the hour was getting close to midnight, Aram, Erevan and Dante saw Khor (via their psionic eyes) approaching. They hid and waited. The lock was picked, and Khor entered the small appartment and promptly took out some sleep poison. Dante grabbed him with his garrote.
The fight was short, but brutal. Khor proved to be a very capable combatant, both with his sickle and his mind, but none the less, the 3 heroes prevailed and got him knocked unconscious. Aram tied him up, woke him and started to question him, but to no avail. He gave up nothing, and suddenly the ropes fell off him, and he had picked Aram's dagger. The fight started again, and Aram went down, but Dante managed to plant a poisoned dagger in his neck, which ended the fight.. permanently. Amanda was naturally very grateful.

Good sirs, I thank you of all of my heart. Words can not express my gratitude, and if I had any money, it would all be yours. Alas, my purse is as empty of coins as the Sea of Silt of water. I am however scared. What if there are more coming. Where should I go. I can not expect you to keep watch over me forever.

As it turns out, Khor turned out to be none other than the Red Scorpion, an assassin of a decent reputation. The PC's decided to capitalize on this, and he was dragged across town and (sorta) crucified on the door of the baker he had killed a while ago. Aram purchased a black snake at a conspicuous half-elf named Vrylar who had a shop of many things down in the Warrens. The black snake was the firmly planted with a dagger in the face of the Red Scorpion.

25th day of Rest in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
After getting some sleep, Dante went to work on this Black Snake sting. He spent some hours spreading the rumours that the Red Scorpion had been killed by the Black Snake for encroaching on his turf.

During the day, they heard that the Beast of Tyr was fighting in the arena the same night, and decided to go check him out. The Black Half-giant was after all supposed to be the best of the best, feared everywhere for his 20' long spiked chains.

Amanda was very nervous about everything that happened:

Maybe I should just marry that old toad. If he is sending these people, it will stop, and if not, he has the money to protect me.
And almost demanded to stay with her heroes.

Danger? How can it be worse than this? If I do nothing, I am surely dead. Might as well stay with you and hope you can save me.
Before heading to the Stadium, they were summoned by Argul. He had a new gig for them. He wanted them find the tomb of Darom Madar, head of a merchant house (lifestock) which was wiped about 100 years ago by it’s rival, House Tsalaxa. House Tsalaxa still stands, and basically has a monopoly over the lifestock trade. According to the information, Darom buried a a small deal of the family fortune and most of their heirlooms, before being killed. He didn’t want his hated enemies to get their hands on his family heirlooms.

My findings show that the tomb was built in a place called Canyon of Gothay, which is supposed to be somewhat near Silver Springs. Silver Springs is a caravan oasis run by a tribe of elves, the Silver Hands. Their leader, Toramund, or perhaps one of his people, is probably our best bet for getting a precise location.
I want you guys to travel to Silver Spring, and find out what the elves knows about this canyon. Then I want you to head there, and empty the tomb of all things valuable, and return here.

Regarding the loot:

Same as last time? I get the old items with symbols upon, and we split the gold and gems 50-50? Anything else, like weapons are yours. Unless they bear ancient symbols, that is.

There is about 200 miles (25 within Tyr area, 100 in Tablelands, 75 in Sand Wastes (desert)) to Silver Springs. Travel is 25 miles per day, half in the desert. All in all, 13 days to reach Silver Spring, assuming no delays.

After the deal was struck, they all went to the Stadium and watched the Beast of Tyr destroy 10 wild desert raiders, without even breaking a sweat.

26th day of Rest in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
The next day, they spent looking for a caravan heading towards the Silver Springs. As it turns out, there was one leaving the next day, led by a fellow named Jonas. They struck a deal to bring their own water and to transport it, and help protect the caravan against they being allowed to follow them and camp with them.

There was no sign of anyone looking for the Black Snake, yet.

They decided to bring Amanda. After all, she could hardly be in more danger with them... right?

27th day of Rest in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
They left Tyr, heading towards the desert and Silver Springs. As they were leaving, they ran into Etan, a old fellow that Erevan apparently knew. He was ranting about the gods who had disappeared and were still there, hiding.

You are heading into the desert? That is indeed dangerous. But fear not, my friend, the gods are everywhere, even in the desert. Pray to them and they will protect you. They might be silent, but they are still there, lurking beyond the edge of our world, watching, and waiting.
They are waiting for us to be ready, to take them into our hearts and minds again, and bow down before them.

If you get lost, pray to Avandra, she will hear you, I have no doubt of this.

30th day of Rest in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
After 3 days of wandering, they (finally) entered the Sand Wastes, and soon after, the caravan got attacked by a handful of Baazrags, a small armadillo-like creature. The fight wasn't too bad, but they did learn one important thing. Even when adequately protected, it is very hard fighting in the sun.

After the fight, Amanda asked Aram to teach her to use a sword. Dante jumped in and offered to teach her to use a dagger. So she started working with both.

4th day of Gather in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
After another 4 days of wandering through the desert, they stumbled on an oasis. As they got near, they saw two figures. It turned out to be two bother merchants, Hamon and Gamon.

Hello there. I am Hamon and the fellow over there is Gamon, my brother. We are headed to Tyr, but sought refuge here when the heat got unbearable. Come and break bread with us, and share this spot.

The PC's didn't trust them at all (when do they ever trust an NPC they have just met) and with good reason.

5th day of Gather in Sun Descending, Year of Priest's Defiance
As soon as the sun got up, two snipers started to shower the party and especially Aram with crossbow-bolts. As the others joined the fight, both Hamon and Gamon jumped on Erevan, trying to make short work of him. But they failed at it, and soon the fight was over.

It seemed that all 4 belonged to the Crimson Raiders, a rather large, organized group of desert raiders in these parts.
