Nobles in Presidio are historically divided into 5 groups, based on alliances. On the chart, these groups are shown by colors. If a noble family is placed away from the main noble of the same color, it is because that family has strong ties to the group it is placed below. For example, the Samot family belongs to the Ballard group but also has strong ties to the Vildar group.
Also, most importantly, the closer to the top of the picture, the more power the family has. It might be political, economical or military power.
